Melody Loops, Chords and Sample Pads all share one recording environment — the same 8 loop slots, the same Save/Library, even the same pad tone. Record a chord loop on the Chords page, switch to Melody Loops, and it's sitting right there ready to play alongside whatever you record next.
Melody Loops
Chord-tone pads for improvising melodies — tap in time with a chord progression and every pad stays musically in key.
Melody Pads
The pad grid always plays notes belonging to the current chord, so anything you tap fits. Choose 8 or 12 pads for a wider range.
Pad Octave & Loop Octave
- Pad Oct — shifts the melody pads up or down an octave, instantly, mid-performance
- Loop Oct — separately shifts the octave of the chord progression accompaniment, without touching what the pads themselves play
Keeping these independent means you can play a bass-register lead over the accompaniment, or shift the accompaniment down a register while your pads stay put — no need to touch both together.
Chord Pattern
Choose a built-in progression to play underneath your melody — Pop/Rock, Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Soul/R&B and more, in both major and minor. The chords advance automatically in time; your melody pads follow whatever chord is currently playing. The Chord Tone button shapes the sound of this accompaniment specifically — it's separate from the tone of the pads themselves.
Arp
Toggles an arpeggiator on the chord accompaniment — instead of the chord playing as a block, its notes ripple in sequence underneath your melody.
Key
Tap Key Up to shift everything up 3 semitones, or open the key picker to jump straight to a specific key. Key (and Major/Minor) are shared with the Chords page: change it from either page and both follow. If anything's currently playing, the change queues cleanly to the next bar rather than landing mid-phrase.
Loop Recorder
Melody Loops, Chords and Sample Pads all share the same 8 loop slots and the same recording engine — record a melody pad performance here and it sits alongside anything you've recorded on the Chords or Samples pages, ready to play together.
- Tap an empty slot to arm it — recording starts cleanly on the next bar
- Tap while recording to stop early, or let it fill the full cycle automatically
- Tap a stopped slot to queue playback — it joins in cleanly on the next bar
- Tap a playing slot to queue a stop — it finishes the current loop first, never cuts off mid-phrase
- Hold any slot with something recorded for Re-record, Clear, or its own independent Volume slider
- The 1×/2× button sets how many bars each new recording captures
- The master Play/Stop button starts or stops every recorded slot together, across all three pages
Because the loop recorder is shared, re-recording a slot from the Chords page changes what plays back here too — they're the same loop, just recorded from wherever's convenient.
Tone
Tap the wave icon in the header to shape the sound of the melody pads — nine instrument presets (Piano, E.Piano, Cosmic, Synth, Organ, Flute, Sax, Harpsi, Bell) plus full manual control over wave shape, detune, modulation, vibrato, attack, decay, sustain, filter resonance and stereo width. This is the same tone the Chords page's own pads use — one shared sound across both.
Chords
Every diatonic chord of the current key across 8 or 12 pads — play them live, record your own chord loop, or loop a built-in progression.
Chord Pads
Pads 1–7 are the seven diatonic triads of the current key (I through vii°), coloured by root note. An 8th pad repeats the tonic an octave up. Switch to 12-pad mode to add the II–V chords an octave up as well.

Recorded chord pads use the same tone as Melody Loops' own pads — shape it from the wave icon in the header on either page, it's one shared sound.
Chord Pattern
A built-in library of progressions you can loop hands-free, independent of your own recordings — Pop/Rock, Blues, 50s/Doo-wop, Jazz, Canon, Country/Folk, Anthem, Modern Pop, Gospel, Soul/R&B in major, plus Rock minor, Classic minor vamp, Cinematic/Epic, Andalusian and Dramatic in minor. The Chord Tone button shapes this accompaniment specifically, separate from the chord pads' own tone.
- Pick a progression and tap Play — it loops continuously
- Tap again to stop cleanly at the end of the current bar, never mid-chord
- Tap the BPM number to set the tempo
Drums
A full 12-pad drum kit combined with four ready-made patterns you can loop hands-free, or tap the pads yourself over the top.
Patterns
Choose from four built-in patterns — Simple, Disco, Rock and Breakdown. Tap one to start looping; tap the same one again to stop cleanly at the end of the bar. Switching patterns mid-loop queues the change to land exactly on the next bar.
Fill
Queue a drum fill for the next bar — press Fill at any point and it plays automatically when the current bar ends, then returns to the normal pattern.
Drum Kit
- Kick, Snare, Hi-Hat, Open Hat, Hi Tom, Lo Tom, Crash, Clap — the core 8-pad kit
- Rim, Cowbell, Shaker, Ride — added in 12-pad mode
Tap any pad any time, whether or not a pattern is playing — they layer over the loop live.
Tempo & Drum Volume
Drag the tempo slider for a smooth, continuous glide — already-sounding hits are never cut off mid-note, and drums speed up or slow down seamlessly. Drum Volume controls the kit independently from the app's master volume.
Move
Rearrange the pad layout to suit how you play — enable Move, tap a pad to select it, then tap another to swap their positions.
Metronome
A compact metronome sits alongside the drum controls — choose a time signature, pick a click sound, and start or stop it independently of the drum patterns.
Sample Pads
Start with a blank grid of 8 or 12 pads. Fill each one with your own recording, an imported audio file, or a sound from the built-in library, then perform and loop with them alongside Melody Loops and Chords.
Adding a Sound
Hold any empty pad to open Add Sound, with three ways to fill it:
- Record — capture up to 3 seconds from your microphone, with a mandatory listen-back before it's committed to the pad
- Import — bring in an audio file from your device
- Library — 36 built-in synthesized sounds across Drums, Percussion, FX, Musical and Fun, each with its own preview button separate from selecting it
The Drums category in the library is the exact same synthesis as the Drums page's own kit — a Kick sample here sounds identical to the Drums page's Kick pad.
Playing Pads
Tap a loaded pad to play it instantly. Hold a loaded pad for Change Sound or Clear Pad.
Move
Rearrange pads to suit your performance — enable Move, tap a pad to select it, then tap another to swap their positions.
Loop Recorder
Eight loop slots record your pad taps and play them back on a seamless cycle — the same 8 slots Melody Loops and Chords use too, not a separate set. Record a sample loop here and it plays alongside a chord loop or melody recorded on the other pages, all from the same shared recorder.
- Tap an empty slot to arm it — recording starts cleanly on the next bar
- Tap a stopped slot to queue playback, or a playing slot to queue a clean stop
- Hold any slot with something recorded for Re-record, Clear, or its own independent Volume slider
- Adjust Cycle length (1× or 2×) to control how many bars each recording captures
- The master Play/Stop button starts every recorded slot together, or queues a synchronized stop for everything currently playing — across all three pages
Saving & Loading Setups
Save and Library cover everything in the shared recording environment at once — every loop across all three pages, every sample pad assignment, the current tone, key and drum pattern.
- New — clears every pad and loop across all three pages, with a confirmation first
- Save — stores the current setup under a name; updates it in place next time, or branch off a new version with Save As
- Library — browse, load, rename, duplicate or delete saved setups, sorted by name or date. Loading a setup asks for confirmation first, since it replaces everything currently on the grid
Saved setups store references to your sounds, not duplicate copies of the audio itself — saving many setups stays lightweight even when each one includes real recordings.
Settings
Open settings by tapping the gear icon in the top right corner of any page.
Themes
- Midnight — deeper, richer dark theme with true blacks
- Dark — default dark theme
- High Contrast — bold black and yellow, maximum readability
- Light — clean bright white theme
Haptic Feedback
Toggles vibration on pad taps.
Playback
Keep playing in background — when on, playback continues if the screen locks or you switch to another app.
Defaults
- Default Pad Mode — which page opens on launch: Chord, Drum or Melody
- Default Pad Count — 8 or 12 pads on launch
